A Jos Magistrates’ Court has sentenced Zih Davou, a trader, to 18 months in prison for stealing a he-goat from a man’s home.
The conviction came after Davou pleaded guilty to the charge, and the case was quickly tried by Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos on Wednesday.
In her ruling, Bokkos sentenced the convict to either pay a fine of N50,000 or serve one year in prison.
Additionally, Davou was ordered to compensate the victim, Fawole Ayodeji, N50,000 or face six months in prison if unable to pay.
Earlier, prosecutor Insp. Ijuptil Thiawur explained that the case was reported on August 19 at the “B” Division police station. Thiawur noted that Davou and an accomplice broke into Ayodeji’s home and stole a goat worth N100,000.
The same convict had been previously arrested for stealing 15 measures of rice, 10 measures of fertilizer, and a bundle of zinc from the same house.
The police confirmed that the offense violated provisions of the Plateau Penal Code Law. (NAN)
