Tragedy struck in Otukpo, Benue State, as renowned lawyer and activist Mike Ofikwu was brutally murdered by unknown gunmen outside his residence on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Otukpa Street in Otukpo town, where Ofikwu had just returned from work. Eyewitnesses described the scene as two armed men in a vehicle approached and shot him at close range.
“It was like a scene from a movie,” a source recounted. “He had just arrived home and was waiting for his gate to be opened when the assailants, who appeared to have been tailing him, drove up and opened fire before speeding away.”
Neighbors rushed Ofikwu to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries due to significant blood loss.
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident and offered condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. Anene assured that an investigation has been launched and the culprits will be brought to justice.
The murder of Mike Ofikwu has sent shockwaves through the community, with many demanding justice for the slain activist. As the investigation unfolds, concerns about safety and security in Benue State are once again brought to the forefront.
