Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has conceded to Republican Donald Trump in the U.S. presidential election, a senior aide confirmed.
In a phone call on Wednesday, Harris congratulated Trump and “discussed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power” as well as the need to serve all Americans, her aide stated.
Harris is set to deliver remarks in Washington, DC, later Wednesday, her first public appearance since her projected loss to Trump in the November 5 election.
Trump, who faced felony charges, has surpassed the 270 Electoral College votes required to secure the presidency.
He is expected to assume office on January 20, 2025, marking his return to power four years after his controversial refusal to acknowledge defeat to President Joe Biden.
In a remarkable political comeback, Trump has achieved a historic second term. He clinched the necessary 270 Electoral College votes early Wednesday, securing victories in key battlegrounds and winning a majority of 51 percent in the popular vote.
