Obaseki Family’s Heartfelt Congratulations to Edo Governor-Elect

The Obaseki family in Benin City has extended warm congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo and his deputy, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, on their recent gubernatorial election victory. Okpebholo, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 291,667 votes, surpassing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Asue Ighodalo’s 247,274 votes.

Mercy Ededuna Obaseki, speaking on behalf of the family, expressed prayers for wisdom and strength for the governor-elect and his deputy as they prepare to lead Edo State. “We’ve witnessed your impressive work as a Senator, and we believe this victory calls you to even higher service for the benefit of Edo State,” she said. “Your win demonstrates the people’s trust in your ability to bring about much-needed development. Congratulations on your well-deserved victory.”

The Obaseki family also seized the opportunity to request assistance from the incoming administration in recovering the late Capt. Sir Ededuna Walter Obaseki’s entitlements from the British and Nigerian governments. As a British Merchant Navy officer, UK Privy Council member, and World War II veteran, his descendants have been unable to secure his rightful benefits since his passing in 1939.

“We urge you to use your good offices to help us retrieve the entitlements for his hard work and dedication to both nations and humanity,” Mercy Ededuna Obaseki added. This appeal highlights the family’s ongoing quest for justice and recognition for their patriarch’s remarkable service.
