Chidimma Adetshina, the reigning Miss Universe Nigeria, has been appointed as Enugu State’s ambassador by Governor Peter Mbah. This announcement was made during her visit to the Government House in Enugu, accompanied by her father, Okechukwu Onwe .
Governor Mbah praised Chidimma for her remarkable resilience and determination, describing her as a true representation of the people of Enugu. He highlighted her ability to overcome adversity, embodying the grit and perseverance that Enugu’s people are known for. “Your journey is inspiring,” Mbah said. “Despite obstacles, you stood firm and proved yourself a true daughter of Enugu. Your strength makes you a role model for our youth, especially young girls” .
The governor emphasized Chidimma’s influence in motivating the younger generation, urging her to share her story of perseverance and triumph to inspire others. He assured her of the state’s full support as she prepares to represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico, encouraging her to continue being a positive influence and mentor to others .
Chidimma expressed gratitude to the people of Enugu for their warm reception and support. “My story has the power to inspire globally,” she said. “Many young people can relate to my challenges and learn from my journey” .
Born in Soweto, South Africa, in 2001 to a Nigerian father from Enugu and a Mozambican-born mother, Chidimma faced controversy during the Miss South Africa pageant due to her nationality. Despite withdrawing from the competition and facing criticism, she emerged victorious in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant on August 14, 2023 .
As Enugu State’s ambassador, Chidimma will engage with and inspire young people, symbolizing resilience, courage, and perseverance.
