Kwara Governor Orders Demolition of APC Chieftain’s Complex Amid Political Dispute

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has ordered the immediate demolition of a complex owned by All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and former House of Representatives member, Hon. Moshood Mustapha. The directive stems from an ongoing political disagreement between the two leaders.

Governor AbdulRazaq gave occupants just three hours’ notice to vacate the premises before demolition commenced around 7 p.m. on Sunday. Nigeria Police Force operatives were deployed to ensure the building was effectively barricaded during the process.

This development contradicts the Kwara State government’s May 2024 statement, which denied plans to demolish Mustapha’s building on Ahmadu Bello Way. At the time, Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye attributed markings on structures along the road to standard practices ensuring building setbacks.

The demolition has sparked controversy, with many viewing it as a move to silence political opposition. Critics argue that the governor’s action undermines democratic principles and freedom of expression.

Supporters of Mustapha have condemned the demolition, calling it an abuse of power and political vendetta. The incident highlights the deepening rift within Kwara State’s APC and raises concerns about the implications for the state’s political landscape.
