Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pardon detained IPOB leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as Nigeria marks its 64th independence anniversary.
It’s National Vice President Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene made the appeal, stating that Kanu’s release would restore peace in the southeast region and end the sit-at-home practice.
“Our major demand is for the President to grant a political pardon to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” Okeke-Ogene said. “This will restore total peace and unity for all Nigerians in Igbo land.” Ohaneze Ndigbo believes in Nigeria’s democracy and seeks Kanu’s freedom to address insecurity, hunger, and socioeconomic challenges.
The organization also called on southeast governors to sustain regional security and welfare. Okeke-Ogene emphasized the need for urgent action to address Nigeria’s slow development pace.
