Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku has congratulated governor-elect Senator Monday Okpebholo on his victory, despite their party affiliations. Agbebaku, a PDP member, advised Okpebholo to beware of sycophants, stating:
“The governor-elect is for Edo people and not for the All Progressives Congress alone, and I prayed that sycophants do not mislead him.”
Okpebholo (APC) won with 291,667 votes, surpassing Asue Ighodalo (PDP) who secured 247,274 votes. Notably, Agbebaku’s local government voted for APC (12,277 votes) over PDP (11,284 votes).
Agbebaku’s congratulatory message contrasts with the PDP’s stance, as they refused to acknowledge Okpebholo’s win, alleging election manipulation. The Speaker’s gesture promotes unity and cooperation between parties.
Infopowerng reported that the PDP governorship candidate and state leadership vowed not to congratulate Okpebholo due to election rigging allegations. Agbebaku’s move demonstrates his commitment to Edo’s progress, regardless of party affiliations.
This development sets a positive tone for Okpebholo’s tenure, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and effective governance.
