Comrade Philip Shaibu has called on Governor Godwin Obaseki to honor the court’s decision reinstating him as Deputy Governor of Edo State. This follows the Federal High Court’s dismissal of the Edo State government and House of Assembly’s application to stay the execution of Shaibu’s reinstatement.
Shaibu’s media team issued a statement on Tuesday, describing the court’s decision as “a resounding affirmation of the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice, protecting citizens’ rights, and defending democracy.”
“It is time to put the interests of Edo State above personal agendas and respect the rule of law,” Shaibu emphasized. “The court has consistently held that Comrade Shaibu’s impeachment was illegal, unconstitutional, and void, violating sections 188 and 35 of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended).”
Justice James Omotosho’s ruling reaffirms the judiciary’s dedication to justice and democracy. Shaibu urged Obaseki to prioritize the state’s interests and respect the court’s decision.
The Federal High Court’s dismissal of the stay of execution application paves the way for Shaibu’s reinstatement. Shaibu’s statement underscores the importance of adhering to the rule of law and upholding democratic principles.
By honoring the court’s judgment, Obaseki can demonstrate his commitment to the people of Edo State and the democratic process. Shaibu’s reinstatement is a significant development in the ongoing saga surrounding his impeachment.
