The Ijumu chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has denounced the purported suspension of Senator Dino Melaye as a forgery, stating it cannot stand. In a communiqué issued by the PDP Chairman in Ijumu Local Government Council, Hon. Olorunmaiye Olabode, the party expressed its unwavering support for Senator Melaye, describing the suspension as “ridiculous and hurriedly written.”
The communiqué emphasized that no materials were presented to conduct the Ward Ad hoc Congress on July 27, 2024, and no LGA Congress was held to elect a National Delegate. It also stated that the party did not participate in the purported State Congress on August 31, 2024, as it was an “illegally held kangaroo arrangement.”
The PDP Ijumu chapter alleged that external enemies of the party concocted the suspension letter to remove Senator Melaye, the party’s leader in Kogi State. The communiqué stated, “We categorically and unequivocally state that the said purported letter of expulsion is a forgery and cannot stand.”
The party challenged those behind the suspension to mention any anti-party activities by Senator Melaye, highlighting his contributions to the party, including paying for accommodation and staff salaries, purchasing membership cards, and providing running costs.
The communiqué concluded, “We, therefore, state for the record that it is a breach of the Party’s Constitution not to follow due process in the haste to execute this malicious and mischievous plan. We urge all members of the party in Ijumu and the state as a whole to disregard the purported dismissal or expulsion of our staunch, loyal, committed, and unflinching state leader.”
