EDO STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: INEC CHAIRMAN ASSURES OF CREDIBLE POLL

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has assured stakeholders of a credible and transparent governorship election in Edo State.

Addressing a stakeholders’ meeting at the Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin City, Professor Yakubu said, “The purpose of this meeting is to interact with political parties and candidates, accredited election observers, the media, and other stakeholders on the preparations for the election.”

He disclosed that the Commission has implemented 11 out of the 13 statutory activities outlined in the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election, leaving only two outstanding activities – the last day of campaign by political parties and Election Day.

“The final list of candidates has been published, with two adjustments made in compliance with court orders. The Labour Party’s deputy candidate has been replaced, and the NRM Candidate has been added to the list. “We have already published the details on our website for public information. I must commend all stakeholders in Edo State for the level of mobilisation for the voter registration and collection of PVCs,” he said.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, also addressed the meeting, assuring of adequate security arrangements for the election.

The meeting was attended by the Chairmen of Political Parties in Edo State, candidates and their running mates, National Commissioners of INEC, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo State, the Commissioner of Police, and other stakeholders.
