Dangote’s Refinery Faces Challenges Due to Tensions with Oil and Gas Stakeholders

Nigeria’s oil marketers have criticized Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, for creating problems with key stakeholders in the oil and gas sector, which could hinder the success of his 650,000 barrels per day refinery.

The National President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, Billy Gillis-Harry, made this statement amidst the feud between Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) over the supply of 26 million barrels of crude.

Gillis-Harry explained that the refinery cannot commence fuel refining without sufficient crude supply and that allocating 26 million barrels to Dangote Refinery alone is impossible, considering other domestic refineries in Nigeria.

He urged all stakeholders to hold a round-table meeting to resolve the crisis in the country’s oil and gas industry. “Dangote has openly created arguments between him and those who should help him solve the crude supply challenges,” Gillis-Harry said. “If they have not been able to resolve the crude oil crisis, I don’t see how he can commence petrol refining.”
