Abuja, Nigeria – The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, announced yesterday that the Police have apprehended some of the key sponsors of the recent riots, where foreign flags were hoisted and calls for a change of government were made in several states, including Kano, Kaduna, and Zamfara.
The Comptroller-General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, revealed that the sponsors of the foreign flags have been identified as living abroad. Meanwhile, service chiefs, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, warned that the military will not stand idly by and watch the country descend into chaos.
The Police have also tracked and blocked the accounts of funders of the violence and subversion, both within and outside the country, stopping their sources of funding. The security chiefs emphasized that the Police have been careful in managing the crisis, using only teargas and not deploying water cannons, live, or rubber bullets.
