The Removal of Senator Ndume Is A Suppression Of Free Speech – FUK lecturer

It was gathered by Hobnob News reports that the immediate Head of Department of Science Education Department, Federal University Kashere, Dr Tukur Madu Yemi, has faulted the 10th Assembly for removing Senator Ndume, the former Chief Whip, describing it as a suppression of free speech and the rule of law which undermined the fundamental principles of democracy.

While speaking in Gombe on Wednesday, the scholar said Senator Ndume only pointed out the pressing burning issues of hunger, insecurity and economic hardship in the country which the authority concerned should address rather than removing him from his position as Chief Whip which appeared to be a retaliation measure that created distorting narratives into the political space.

According to Dr Yemi, the removal of Senator Ndume is a wake-up call for all Nigerians who value democracy and accountability, adding that ” his interview was an attempt to bring attention to the critical issues facing our nation, and his removal is a clear attempt to silence dissenting voices. We cannot afford to remain silent in the face of this suppression. We must demand that our leaders uphold the principles of democracy and ensure that our voices are heard.”

He stated that ” the suppression of free speech has far-reaching consequences for any democracy. It undermines the ability of citizens to hold their leaders accountable, perpetuates a culture of impunity, and threatens national security and stability. We cannot afford to let this happen in Nigeria. We must take a stand and demand that our leaders prioritise transparency and accountability.”

“I implore all Nigerians to join me in demanding that the National Assembly reconsider their decision and uphold the principles of democracy. We must work towards finding solutions to the pressing issues facing our nation and prioritize the welfare of our citizens.

Apparently, the growing discontent threatens our national security and stability, and we cannot afford to remain silent. Let us make our voices heard and demand a better future for Nigeria,” he said.
