In a landmark decision, the Abuja division of the Court of Appeal has dismissed the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Timipre Sylva, challenging the Bayelsa governorship election tribunal’s judgment.
A three-man panel of Justices unanimously upheld the tribunal’s verdict, affirming the victory of the incumbent governor. The court’s decision marks a significant milestone in the protracted legal battle over the Bayelsa governorship election.
The APC and Sylva had sought to overturn the tribunal’s judgment, citing alleged irregularities and electoral malpractices. However, the Appeal Court’s dismissal of their appeal has put an end to their legal challenge, solidifying the incumbent governor’s mandate.
