President Bola Tinubu and governors agree to establish state police

 

In a major development, President Bola Tinubu, alongside governors, has agreed to establish state police in the country. The decision was reached at an emergency meeting summoned by the President at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

 

Minister of Information and National Orientation, who disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents, stated that there will be series of meetings to fine tune the modalities for setting up state police.

 

Speaking to the media, the Minister said, “The federal government and state governments are mulling the possibility of setting up state police. This is a significant shift and a lot of work still has to be done in that direction. But what the federal government and state governments are agreeing to the necessity of having state policy.”

 

He further added, “More works need to be done in that direction. A lot of meetings will have to happen between different governments and sub nationals to see the modalities of achieving this.”

 

The move to establish state police comes as a significant development and could potentially address the security challenges facing the country. The decision is bound to have far-reaching implications and could pave the way for a more efficient and localized approach to law enforcement and security.
