Edo State – Labour Party governorship aspirant Olumide Akpata has vehemently denied allegations that he sponsored an attack on leaders of the party belonging to the Lamidi Apapa group. In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Akpata described the allegations as a deliberate attempt to malign his personality.
The incident in question involved members of the Apapa group being attacked in Edo State, a video of which had gone viral on social media. However, Akpata categorically denied any involvement or link with the attack. He firmly maintained his dedication to peaceful and fair politics, asserting that he had always promoted harmonious relationships within the Labour Party.
In the meantime, the Labour Party in Edo State has also addressed rumors that they asked Akpata to drop out of the governorship race. The party’s spokesperson in Edo State, Sam Uruopa, clarified that the purported source of the claim was not a member of the party. Uruopa strongly denied any intention to discourage or sideline Akpata based on the allegations made against him.
The Labour Party in Edo State assured the public that they are committed to conducting a free and fair primary election to determine their candidate for the upcoming governorship elections. Uruopa emphasized that the party remains impartial and focused on selecting the candidate most capable of delivering good governance to the people of Edo State.
