In the ongoing election in Bayelsa State, Governor Duoye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a significant lead with over 60,000 votes. Seeking reelection, Diri’s margin over his closest challenger, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has now climbed to 65,088 after the result of Southern Ijaw was declared.
The Governor secured victory in Southern Ijaw with 24,685 votes, while the APC received 18,174 votes in the same region. With a total of 175,196 votes, Diri has established a strong lead, leaving Sylva trailing with 110,108 votes.
Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are currently putting finishing touches to the exercise at the collation center in Yenagoa, the state capital. As the final results draw near, supporters of Governor Diri are expressing confidence in his re-election bid.
