Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has lamented the increasing rate of idolatry in the South East, despite the proliferation of churches across the region.
Soludo while noting that out of the number of people professing Christianity, only a few are genuinely practising it, advised church leaders not to focus on physical projects to the detriment of evangelism and soul-winning.
Soludo, who made this known during the 10th edition of the Anglican Prayer Rally of Anambra State, in Awka, on Saturday, also called for a reduction of fees charged in schools owned by churches to ensure affordability for the vulnerable and the downtrodden in society.
“The increasing rate of idolatry amidst the proliferation of churches is regrettable. We must avoid the complacency of those who feel we have arrived; making the church remain on a maintenance level.
“If we are not careful, I see a dangerous trend where the church will get distracted in various directions of system maintenance, projects upon projects.
Governor Soludo used the occasion to enumerate that the essence of governance and Christianity remained touching on the lives of the poor and vulnerable while assuring that his government is committed to the citizens’ welfare amid limited available resources.
