Chief Justice of Nigeria To Constitute Supreme Court Panel On Presidential Election Dispute On Wednesday

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, is set to constitute the Supreme Court panel that will hear the appeal filed by opposition political parties against the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Court.

The CJN is expected to constitute the apex court panel latest on Wednesday.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the Tribunal in a 12-hour judgment upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

The presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi rejected the PEPC judgment, and had indicated that they would approach the Supreme Court for redress.

The contitution gives them 14 days from the day the judgment was delivered to file their appeal at the Supreme court.

The Supreme Court on Friday revealed that the CJN had yet to constitute the panel of the apex court that will hear the appeals but it was reliably gathered that the CJN will constitute the panel latest on Wednesday when the timeline for the filing of the appeals will end.
