The Labour Party on Friday sympathised with the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, over the fire incident at his Lagos home on Wednesday.
The party in a solidarity message issued in Abuja urged the government to investigate the actual cause of the fire.
The fire, according to reports, started from the roof before it exploded into a huge ball of fire as family members of the union leader scampered to safety.
Despite the efforts by neighbours and fire fighters to put off the situation, the inferno could however not be extinguished.
Reacting to the incident, LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, said as much as he would not like to apportion blames, he would urge the government to leave no stone unturned until it discovered the cause of the fire.
He stated, “We urge the government to carry out a proper investigation on the incident with a genuine mindset to find out the cause of the mysterious fire which happened at a time Comrade Ajaero was attending a conference outside the country in the service of fatherland.
“The Fire Service must be encouraged to live up to its duties. Prompt response to fire incidences can save life, property and prevent pains associated with such loss.”
He urged the union leader not to be discouraged but be guided by the NLC’s motto of ‘Aluta Continua,’ while noting that it was exciting that no life was lost.
