President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with Hyacinth Alia and former Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting comes amid growing political tensions in Benue State, although details of the discussions were not immediately available as the session was held behind closed doors.
The development follows an intensifying power struggle within the Benue chapter of the All Progressives Congress, where Governor Alia and supporters of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, are vying for control of the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting also comes amid shifting political alignments in the state, with Suswam emerging as one of the key figures in discussions surrounding the next electoral cycle following the APC senatorial primaries.
While it remains unclear whether the Benue political crisis formed part of the discussions, the timing of the meeting has fuelled speculation that the Presidency may be seeking to calm tensions, reconcile rival political interests and foster unity among key stakeholders in the state.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had not released an official statement on the outcome of the meeting.
