Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has taken a swipe at the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, accusing him of inconsistency and opposing government policies he once advocated.
In a statement shared on social media, Bwala questioned Obi’s reactions to some of the key reforms implemented by the Tinubu administration, suggesting that the former Anambra State governor had repeatedly changed his position on critical national issues.
“I don’t know why anytime Nigeria makes progress, it angers Peter Obi. Why? It is the same Nigeria he is seeking to govern in his wild goose chase,” Bwala said.
The presidential aide further claimed that Obi had supported several policies before the 2023 general election but was now criticising the same measures after they were implemented by the current administration.
According to Bwala, Obi had previously advocated for the removal of fuel subsidy, the establishment of state police, and the unification of the foreign exchange market.
“Before the 2023 elections, he said he would remove subsidy; we did and now he says he will not. He said he will create state police; we did, he is saying he will not. He said he will unify the foreign exchange; we did and now he is saying he will not,” Bwala stated.
The presidential spokesman argued that Obi’s current positions suggest a lack of clarity regarding his plans for the country.
“It seems he doesn’t even know what he plans for Nigeria,” he added.
Bwala’s remarks come amid ongoing political debates over the impact of the Tinubu administration’s economic and security reforms, with opposition figures continuing to criticise aspects of the government’s policies while the administration insists that the measures are necessary for long-term national development.
Neither Peter Obi nor the Nigeria Democratic Congress had officially responded to Bwala’s comments as of the time of filing this report.
