Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the worsening state of insecurity in the country following the death of former House of Representatives member, Abba Adamu, in kidnappers’ custody.
Adamu, who represented Guri, Kiri-Kasamma and Birniwa Federal Constituency in Jigawa State from 2007 to 2011, was abducted on May 3 along the Kaduna-Abuja highway while travelling from Kano to Abuja for a political meeting.
Reports indicated that the former lawmaker died nine days later while being held captive by his abductors despite efforts by his family to secure his release.
Reacting to the development, Atiku described the incident as another tragic reminder of the growing insecurity across the country, accusing the Tinubu administration of failing to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.
The former presidential candidate expressed concern over the increasing cases of kidnappings, killings and violent attacks on major highways and communities, stating that citizens now live in fear due to the deteriorating security situation.
He lamented that the Kaduna-Abuja highway, once regarded as a critical route linking the northern part of the country to the Federal Capital Territory, had continued to witness repeated attacks by bandits and kidnappers.
Atiku urged the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive measures to tackle insecurity, strengthen intelligence gathering and improve the welfare and operational capacity of security agencies.
He also sympathised with the family of the late former lawmaker, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul and comfort for those he left behind.
