The Federal Government has unveiled the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, an initiative aimed at making laptops, internet-enabled devices and other digital tools more accessible to Nigerians through affordable consumer credit.
The programme, launched on Tuesday, is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. It is designed to promote digital inclusion by enabling more Nigerians to acquire essential technology through structured financing.
As part of the initiative, the government said the programme supports its broader agenda of expanding access to consumer credit, creating economic opportunities and improving living standards through responsible borrowing.
Developed in collaboration with the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, the scheme will initially provide financing for locally assembled laptops before expanding to other digital devices. Officials said the move is intended to encourage local manufacturing, strengthen digital skills, increase productivity and support participation in Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
Speaking at the launch in Abuja, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, described access to credit as a key driver of economic development. He praised President **Bola Tinubu** and CREDICORP for championing the initiative, saying it would stimulate employment, boost entrepreneurship and contribute to the administration’s ambition of building a $1 trillion economy.
Tijani noted that expanding access to affordable credit would allow individuals and businesses to invest in productive assets, improve livelihoods and support national economic growth. He added that the C.L.I.C.K.D. programme reflects the government’s commitment to using technology and innovative financing to narrow the digital gap and increase participation in the digital economy.
He said initiatives such as the new credit scheme are central to achieving the administration’s economic targets, stressing that improved access to digital tools will empower more Nigerians with opportunities for innovation and enterprise.
During the event, the minister presented laptops symbolically to some beneficiaries.
Also speaking, CREDICORP Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Nwagba, announced that the corporation would distribute 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible participants under the programme to improve access to technology and digital learning.
According to Nwagba, the devices will help beneficiaries develop relevant digital skills, enhance their educational experience and prepare for opportunities in the technology sector. He added that sourcing the laptops locally supports indigenous manufacturing while creating jobs within Nigeria’s technology industry.
He disclosed that the first phase of distribution began in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries received laptops, while the remaining devices will be delivered to qualified participants across other states in subsequent phases.
Nwagba said the initiative is expected to reduce the digital divide, expand access to technology-driven opportunities such as remote work and online training, and equip more Nigerians with the digital tools required to succeed in an increasingly technology-focused economy.
