Fuel prices across Nigerian filling stations have risen sharply, just hours after the Dangote Refinery increased its gantry petrol price.
A correspondent from Hobnob News observed that major filling stations, including MRS and BOVAS, swiftly adjusted their pump prices in Abuja. Petrol, which previously sold between N1,292 and N1,295 per litre, now ranges from N1,365 to N1,370 per litre.
This reflects an increase of between N75 and N78 per litre, further tightening the financial burden on consumers already grappling with rising living costs.
The upward adjustment follows a decision by Dangote Refinery on Wednesday to raise its gantry price by N75 per litre, moving from N1,200 per litre. The refinery attributed the increase to a surge in global crude oil prices, which climbed above $115 per barrel after the United Arab Emirates exited the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
Industry observers note that Nigeria remains highly vulnerable to fluctuations in international crude oil prices, particularly amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, which continue to disrupt global supply dynamics.
Hobnob News reports that since February 2026, petrol prices in Nigeria have experienced a steep rise, climbing from around N800 per litre to nearly N1,400 per litre in recent weeks, underscoring the persistent volatility in the downstream petroleum sector.
