President Bola Tinubu has endorsed Obafemi Hamzat as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming general elections in Lagos.
The endorsement was made on Wednesday when members of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC) paid a courtesy visit to the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu’s declaration is seen as a significant boost to Hamzat’s ambition, further consolidating support within the ruling party ahead of its primary election.
The development follows an earlier move by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who had on Monday named Hamzat as his preferred successor.
Sanwo-Olu made the announcement after a closed-door meeting held at Lagos House, Marina, where Hamzat formally declared his intention to contest the governorship seat before members of the State Executive Council and other key party stakeholders.
Political observers say the alignment between the President, the incumbent governor, and party leadership signals a strategic effort by the APC to maintain continuity in governance in Lagos State.
