APC Signals Key Strategy: Tinubu Picks Form, Hamzat Emerges Lagos Frontrunner

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has begun moves toward a possible 2027 re-election campaign following the purchase of his ₦100 million APC Expression of Interest and Presidential Nomination forms in Abuja.

The Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State, which took responsibility for the purchase, also secured nomination forms for the state’s deputy governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, indicating strong support for his likely governorship ambition.

GAC Chairman, Tajudeen Olusi, stated at a press conference in Lagos that members pooled resources for the purchases because of their confidence in both leaders. He rejected claims that any single individual, including Hon. James Faleke, paid for Tinubu’s forms.

Olusi further explained that the council jointly raised ₦50 million for Hamzat’s forms, noting that he is well-equipped to continue and enhance Lagos State’s progress. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also reiterated the party’s backing for Tinubu, pointing to faith in his “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Meanwhile, James Faleke, speaking at the APC national secretariat, said he obtained the forms on behalf of many supporters across the country. He stated, “I have done so on their behalf, on behalf of Nigerians.” He added, “There is no one particular person that has done this.”

Faleke expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances, saying, “By the grace of God, 2027 will be a reality… he will contest and he will win the election.” He also confirmed that he obtained forms for himself and Senator Idiat Adebule.

In a separate development, Senator Shehu Buba obtained governorship nomination forms for Bauchi State, expressing optimism about APC’s chances. He said, “We stand a very good chance to take over Bauchi from the ruling PDP.”

In Lagos, a coalition of Christian leaders endorsed Hamzat as the APC’s preferred governorship candidate, describing him as the most suitable choice after consultations. They declared that he is “God’s choice” and pledged moral, financial, and spiritual backing for his ambition.

However, PDP governorship aspirant Laja Adeoye faulted the endorsements, describing them as a “coronation ceremony.” He argued that the move was aimed at entrenching APC’s long-standing dominance in Lagos and maintaining control of the state’s political structure.
