Palmer Backs Rosenior Amid Chelsea Struggles, Calls for Patience and Pre-Season Reset

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has publicly defended head coach Liam Rosenior as the club continues to navigate a difficult period in the season.

The England international voiced his support with the Blues facing mounting pressure ahead of their final six matches in the Premier League campaign. Rosenior, who took charge in January following the dismissal of Enzo Maresca, has endured a challenging start to his tenure at Stamford Bridge.

Since his appointment, Chelsea have struggled for consistency, suffering a heavy exit from the UEFA Champions League after an 8–2 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16. Domestically, the Blues are also battling to secure qualification for next season’s competition, currently sitting sixth in the league table with 48 points from 32 matches.

Speaking in an interview with The Guardian, Palmer emphasized the limitations of appointing a manager mid-season and urged patience.

“Hiring a manager mid-season means there is no pre-season, and there is barely any time for training. The focus is solely on the matches,” he said.

Despite the setbacks, Palmer expressed confidence in Rosenior’s ability, highlighting the importance of time and proper preparation.

“However, the manager is competent, and once he has a proper pre-season to convey his ideas effectively and implement his desired style of play, he is an exceptional coach,” he added.

The 21-year-old also stressed the collective responsibility of the squad to improve performances, noting that both players and management must work together to achieve progress.

“If we, as players, perform to our potential and acquire the right players, both he and we as a collective can achieve significant progress,” Palmer stated.

Palmer himself has come under scrutiny amid Chelsea’s dip in form, with injuries affecting his consistency. He has recorded 10 goals and three assists in 27 appearances across all competitions this season.

Chelsea will now shift focus to their upcoming FA Cup semi-final on April 26, while also pushing to secure a top-five finish in the league standings.
