Vice President Kashim Shettima has reassured Nigerians that the country will overcome its security challenges, expressing confidence in ongoing reforms and national unity.
Speaking at the 2026 National Police Day Grand Parade in Abuja, Shettima said Nigeria remains on a path to recovery and progress despite current difficulties.
He stressed that the nation’s institutions are being strengthened and citizens are gradually coming together, noting that the journey may be long but not hopeless. According to him, Nigeria will continue to prevail as long as security agencies remain responsive and reforms are prioritised.
The vice president described the celebration as more than a ceremony, calling it a renewed commitment to building a police force defined by professionalism, accountability, courage, and service. He added that every Nigerian should feel safe, respected, and protected.
Shettima also emphasised that national security is a shared responsibility. He urged citizens, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious bodies, civil society, and the private sector to work closely with security agencies.
He warned that insecurity thrives when there is distrust between citizens and law enforcement, stressing the need for stronger cooperation and mutual confidence.
Addressing the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force, he called for unwavering commitment to reforms, professionalism, and integrity. He urged officers to uphold the honour of their uniform and inspire public trust through their actions.
The event was attended by top government officials, security chiefs, and police personnel from across the country.
