The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the recent deadly attack on Mbalom community in Gwer-East Local Government Area, describing it as a “heinous and unacceptable act.”
In a press statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the Governor decried the assault allegedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen on the peace-loving residents of the area.
Governor Alia described the incident as a direct affront to the peace and security of the state, expressing deep sympathy to families who lost loved ones or suffered injuries in the attack. He assured affected communities that the state government stands firmly with them in this difficult time.
The Governor raised concerns over what he termed a disturbing pattern of calculated and selective attacks across parts of the state, warning that such acts of terror—though increasingly complex and persistent—will not be allowed to continue unchecked.
He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to tackling insecurity and confronting all forms of criminality threatening the safety of residents.
Governor Alia also commended the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their swift response to the incident. He noted assurances from security operatives that they are actively pursuing the perpetrators and will ensure their arrest and prosecution.
He, however, urged security agencies to intensify their operations to prevent further attacks and provide lasting relief to affected communities.
While acknowledging the ongoing security challenges, the Governor assured citizens that his administration is taking all necessary steps to strengthen the state’s security architecture, improve intelligence gathering, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to restore peace.
He called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, while encouraging them to support security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing operations.
Governor Alia reiterated that his government remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and property and will not relent in its pursuit of peace, justice, and security for all citizens of Benue State.
