INEC De-Registration: “ADC Must Blame Itself” — Reno Omokri Fires Back at David Mark Faction

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has strongly criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the party as a “professional group of jumpers” following its reported deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement titled “INEC De-registration: ADC Professional Party Jumpers Have Only Themselves to Blame,” Omokri insisted that the crisis rocking the party was self-inflicted, particularly by the faction led by David Mark.

Omokri expressed disappointment over the reaction of the ADC faction to INEC’s interpretation of the March 12, 2026 Court of Appeal ruling. According to him, the group failed to provide any clear alternative interpretation of the judgment, raising questions about their position.

“I read the statement from the spokesperson of the David Mark group… and expected them to explain their own understanding of the judgment. But nothing came up, which doesn’t make sense,” he said.

He argued that the current predicament of the party was avoidable, accusing the David Mark-led faction of causing the crisis through their own actions. Omokri further stressed that if the group intends to challenge the ruling, it must do so within the bounds of the law and respect the decision of the Court of Appeal.

The ambassador warned against attempts to incite public sentiment against INEC, describing such actions as “risky and desperate,” capable of undermining Nigeria’s electoral system.

Omokri also dismissed allegations that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) influenced INEC’s decision, urging the ADC faction to take responsibility instead of shifting blame.

He added that the party’s internal instability stemmed from what he described as politically motivated alignments driven by personal or business interests rather than democratic ideology.

“The David Mark group should understand that they bought a faulty product. They should either fix it or move on,” he stated.

With the next general elections less than a year away, Omokri concluded that forming a new political party may no longer be a viable option for the embattled faction, urging them to focus on resolving their internal issues swiftly.
