The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has announced that three senatorial seats in the 10th Senate are now vacant following the deaths of their respective occupants.
Akpabio made the disclosure during Tuesday’s plenary session, stating that the vacancies were a direct result of the demise of lawmakers representing the affected senatorial districts.
He noted that the development was in line with constitutional provisions, which require that such seats be declared vacant upon the death of serving legislators. The Senate President also paid tribute to the deceased lawmakers, acknowledging their contributions to legislative duties and national development.
The announcement is expected to pave the way for the necessary processes to fill the vacant positions in accordance with electoral guidelines.
