Oluwo of Iwo Backs Possible Third Term for Tinubu, Cites Economic Gains

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has expressed confidence that a significant number of Nigerians would support a constitutional amendment to allow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek a third term in office.

Speaking on recent political developments, the monarch attributed his stance to what he described as notable progress under Tinubu’s leadership. According to him, improvements in Nigeria’s economic indicators, particularly the rise in foreign reserves, demonstrate the administration’s commitment to stabilizing the nation’s economy.

Oba Akanbi also highlighted the growing autonomy of local governments as a key achievement of the current administration. He noted that empowering local councils has the potential to accelerate grassroots development and strengthen governance at the community level.

The traditional ruler maintained that these strides could influence public opinion in favor of extending Tinubu’s tenure, should a constitutional amendment be proposed. He argued that continuity in leadership may help consolidate ongoing reforms and sustain economic recovery efforts.

While the suggestion of a third term for a sitting president remains a sensitive and widely debated issue within Nigeria’s political landscape, Oba Akanbi’s remarks are likely to spark further discussions on constitutional reforms and democratic principles in the country.
