AN Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Thursday remanded a 40-year-old unemployed man, George Ukpong, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl.
Hobnob News reported that the Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, who did not take the plea of Ukpong, ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
Kubeinje adjourned the case till March 22 for DPP advice.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that Ukpong committed the offence on February 19 at Jaiye Oba Street, Shasha, Lagos.
Ajayi said Ukpong lured the girl into his room and defiled her.
He said that the defendant was caught by some neighbours.
Ajayi said the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Hobnob News reports that the section stipulates life imprisonment if found guilty.
Tax collectors
Meanwhile, a Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced two tax collectors, Yahuza Mohammed and Yusuf Dahiru, to four months imprisonment for causing hurt.

The judge, Saminu Suleiman, sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency.
Sulieman, gave the convicts an option of N20, 000 fine each and warned them to desist from committing crimes.
The judge ordered the convicts to pay N15,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Olanipekun Babajide, told the court that the matter was reported at Zuba Police Station, Abuja, by the complainant, Kashim Musa.
Babajide said the convicts demanded payment for a ticket to enter the Dan–Kogi Motor Park in Zuba.
He said the convict also accused the complainant of wrong parking and while he was trying to explain, the convicts attacked him without provocation.
He said the convicts beat the complainant and he sustained injuries.
The prosecutor added that the convicts damaged the complainant’s car ignition key.
Babajide said the complainant was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
He told the court that during the police investigation, the convicts confessed to committing the crime.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 268, and 311 of the Penal Code.
