The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) in Abuja announced the arrival of roughly 100 US military personnel and related equipment at Bauchi Airfield, part of ongoing defence collaboration between Nigeria and the United States.
According to a statement signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, the deployment follows a formal request by the Nigerian government and is intended to support military training, technical assistance, and intelligence sharing with the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The DHQ emphasized that the US personnel are strictly in an advisory role, not combat troops, and all activities will be conducted under Nigerian command. Joint training and intelligence-focused initiatives are set to begin, aimed at improving Nigeria’s capacity to counter extremist threats and protect vulnerable communities.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, national security, and the defeat of terrorist groups threatening the country’s stability.
Earlier reports indicated that an additional 200 US personnel would soon join Nigeria to enhance operational coordination, particularly in joint air and ground operations, further expanding military cooperation between Washington and Abuja.
