President Bola Ahmed Tinubu momentarily lost his footing on Wednesday during an official reception parade in Turkey, an incident captured on video and quickly shared across social media.
The brief stumble occurred as the Nigerian leader walked during a ceremonial welcome organised by Turkish authorities as part of his official visit. Video footage shows President Tinubu regaining his balance almost immediately and continuing with the parade without assistance.
The programme proceeded without interruption, and the president went on to take part in all scheduled activities. Nigerian officials at the event confirmed that there were no injuries or health concerns arising from the incident.
While the Presidency has not released a formal statement, the footage indicates that President Tinubu remained composed and fully engaged throughout the ceremony.
President Tinubu is in Turkey as part of Nigeria’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, with discussions focused on trade, investment, defence cooperation and infrastructure development.
Nigeria and Turkey have enjoyed long-standing diplomatic ties, with cooperation between both countries expanding in recent years. Since assuming office in May 2023, Tinubu has undertaken several foreign trips aimed at attracting investment, boosting economic partnerships and reinforcing Nigeria’s global diplomatic standing.
Observers note that similar minor incidents involving world leaders have occurred in the past without affecting official engagements. President Tinubu’s visit to Turkey continues, with scheduled meetings with Turkish officials and business leaders in line with Nigeria’s official itinerary.
