The Rivers State House of Assembly has dismissed reports suggesting that it has withdrawn the impeachment notice issued against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing such claims as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the Assembly’s Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Petitions and Complaints, Hon. Enemi George, the lawmakers clarified that the impeachment process initiated on Thursday, January 8, 2026, remains fully on course and is being conducted strictly in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
Hon. George refuted circulating reports that the House had halted or suspended the impeachment proceedings, insisting that no such decision had been taken by the Assembly.
He urged members of the public to disregard what he termed “misleading information,” stressing that the Rivers State House of Assembly remains committed to discharging its constitutional responsibilities without fear or favour.
According to him, the Assembly will not be deterred by what he described as “cheap blackmail or threats” from individuals or groups who do not mean well for the state and the nation’s nascent democracy.
The statement reaffirmed the lawmakers’ resolve to uphold democratic principles and the rule of law as the impeachment process continues.
