The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has abruptly terminated the appointment of the Acting Executive Chairman of the FCT Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), Mr. Michael Ango, effective immediately.
The decisive move by the Minister was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
Following Ango’s removal, the Minister directed the most senior official within the FCT-IRS to immediately assume the leadership of the critical revenue agency in an acting capacity.
Sacked Despite Exceeding Targets
The dismissal comes as a surprise, given the agency’s strong financial performance under Ango’s leadership. Hobnob News can confirm that the Revenue Service recorded a robust revenue collection of N262 billion in 2024. This figure successfully surpassed the agency’s set target of N250 billion and significantly exceeded the N211.1 billion collected in the previous year (2023).
Ango was originally appointed as Acting Chairman of the FCT-IRS by President Bola Tinubu on August 9, 2024, placing him directly under the authority of the FCT Minister.
Mystery Surrounds Dismissal
As of the time of filing this report, no official reason has been provided for the sudden decision to remove the Acting Executive Chairman, fueling speculation regarding the motives behind the high-profile shake-up in the capital’s revenue structure.
The statement confirming the action was brief: “The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has sacked the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Michael Ango.”
