Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has unveiled a new set of high tech security equipment designed to strengthen surveillance and crime prevention across the state. The rollout includes drones, patrol vehicles, motorcycles, bulletproof vests and communication gear. The initiative was presented through the Enugu State Security Trust Fund as part of efforts to enhance rapid response operations.
The equipment consists of two long range surveillance drones, ten Hilux patrol vans, forty motorcycles and four hundred bulletproof vests and helmets. Officials say the drones are capable of night time and thermal imaging, which can assist in monitoring remote areas and tracking suspicious movements. The move follows earlier investments by the administration, including a Command and Control Centre and artificial intelligence enabled cameras deployed across the state.
Although some online claims suggest that newly formed forest guards have been armed with modern rifles as part of this expansion, government statements and verified news reports have not confirmed that detail. The equipment announced so far has been described broadly as security assets for state wide operations rather than for a specific unit.
Governor Mbah said the aim is to consolidate recent gains in security and make Enugu safer for residents and investors. He noted that violent crime in the state has dropped significantly since the administration began its reforms. Security officials added that the upgraded tools will support intelligence driven patrols in both urban and rural areas.
The state government has not issued any formal statement linking the equipment to forest guard operations, nor has it confirmed any arming of such a unit. Further clarification is expected as the new assets are deployed across the security architecture.
