The Senate will on Wednesday screen President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nominee for Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, during plenary.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Office of the Senate Majority Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, indicating that the Upper Chamber has formally received President Tinubu’s request seeking the confirmation of General Musa as the new Defence Minister.
According to the statement, the President’s letter will be read on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, after which the screening exercise will commence immediately.
Senator Bamidele noted that the Senate would not delay action on the request, especially given the critical role of the Defence Ministry at this time. He stressed that the matter “touches the core interest of our nation,” adding that the Senate remains committed to ensuring that national security concerns receive urgent legislative attention.
The screening of General Musa is expected to be one of the key items on Wednesday’s plenary agenda.
