The legal battle between the Government of Nasarawa State and Governor Abdullahi Sule on one side, and Prof. Zachary Gundu on the other, took a new turn on Tuesday as the Governor’s legal team requested an adjournment at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Abuja.
At the hearing, lead counsel to the defendant, Prof. Sebastine Hon, SAN, informed the Court that his team had received a formal letter from the claimants—Nasarawa State Government and Governor Sule—through their legal representatives, seeking an adjournment of the proceedings. He added that the defence had no objection to the request.
Prof. Hon, SAN, who appeared alongside a formidable legal team including T.J. Aondo, SAN, Dr. Alex Adum (former Attorney-General of Benue State), M.A. Jacob (former Attorney-General of Kaduna State), Ejembi (Legal Adviser to the Middle Belt Forum), Prof. (Mrs.) Magdalene Dura, Mue Clement, T. Kyuga, Victor Iorshenge, among others, further notified the Court that they had filed a preliminary objection.
He stressed that the objection challenges the jurisdiction of the Court to entertain the matter and insisted that the Court must hear and determine the objection before proceeding to the substantive case.
Notably, no counsel appeared on behalf of the Nasarawa State Government or Governor Sule when the matter was called.
Following the submissions, the Court adjourned the case to January 15, 2026, for hearing and determination of the preliminary objection as the first order of business.
