The Federal Operations Unit Zone C of the Nigeria Customs Service, Owerri, has transferred 86,100 grams of hard drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency following a series of successful interceptions across the zone.
In a statement issued over the weekend, the Command confirmed that the handover included 151 wraps of cannabis sativa weighing 77,500 grams and 15 wraps of Canadian loud weighing 8,600 grams.
During the official handover ceremony, the Customs Area Controller for the zone, Abdullahi Balogun, said the operation reflects the shared commitment of Nigeria’s security agencies to protect the nation’s health, security and economic stability.
According to Balogun, the illicit substances were carefully concealed and transported to avoid detection, but vigilant and intelligence-driven patrol teams intercepted the contraband during routine operations.
He noted that, under the leadership of Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, the Service continues to uphold its mandate of revenue generation, suppression of smuggling, trade facilitation and active support to national security efforts.
Balogun emphasised the importance of collaboration between agencies, stating that the handover to the NDLEA demonstrates strong inter-agency synergy encouraged by the Federal Government.
He reiterated the Service’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s borders and ensuring communities remain safe from the harmful impact of drug trafficking.
The Command urged members of the public to provide credible information that could aid enforcement operations and support the ongoing fight against illicit drugs and smuggling.
