Obidient Movement Mobilisation Director Quits, Blames Obi for Neglecting Grassroots

The Director of Mobilisation for the Obidient Movement, Chima Monye, has resigned, accusing former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi of neglecting the grassroots network that drove his 2023 campaign.

In a statement announcing his exit, Monye cited frustration, harassment, and lack of support from the party’s leadership. He said the Labour Party’s poor showing in the recent Anambra governorship election had made his position untenable.

Monye claimed he spent about ₦40 million of his own funds on mobilisation, events, and media campaigns, but received no financial or communication support from Obi.

“There’s no bank account for the directorate, no funding, no communication — not even a single inquiry from Mr Peter Obi,” he stated.

He also alleged being harassed by sympathisers of the current administration over his role in the movement and urged his successor to continue plans to equip polling agents with body cameras for transparency.

Monye advised the movement to adopt a more professional structure and hire consultants to manage operations, warning that “goodwill alone can’t sustain a political campaign.”

The Obidient Movement, which gained prominence during the 2023 elections, has recently faced internal disorganisation and funding issues.
