Typhoon Kalmaegi Approaches Vietnam After Leaving 114 Dead in Philippines

Typhoon Kalmaegi is barreling toward central Vietnam after devastating the Philippines, where it claimed at least 114 lives and submerged entire towns.

The storm has gained strength as it moves westward, prompting urgent warnings from Vietnamese authorities. The country, already reeling from record rainfall and widespread flooding, is preparing for what could be one of Asia’s most powerful typhoons this year.

Six airports have been shut down, and the government has warned that hundreds of flights will be disrupted.

Describing Kalmaegi as a “very abnormal” storm, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has called on local officials to respond with the utmost urgency.
