Governor Umo Eno Signs N695bn Supplementary Budget to Boost Akwa Ibom’s 2025 Development Agenda

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has signed into law a ₦695 billion supplementary budget for the 2025 fiscal year, following its passage by the State House of Assembly.

The supplementary appropriation, passed on Tuesday after the adoption of a report presented by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, aims to strengthen the implementation of key government projects and programmes across the state.

According to the Committee Chairman, Itorobong Etim, the budget will be funded through multiple revenue channels, including statutory allocations, internally generated revenue, derivation funds, 13% derivation arrears, signature bonuses, exchange gains, and value-added tax (VAT).

Out of the total ₦695 billion, ₦125.66 billion is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while ₦569.33 billion is dedicated to capital projects. This raises the state’s total revised budget for 2025 to ₦1.65 trillion — up from the initial ₦955 billion approved in December 2024.

The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday during the October edition of the State’s Project Delivery Meeting held at Government House, Uyo.

Governor Eno commended the Speaker and members of the House for their swift consideration and passage of the bill, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to accountability, transparency, and people-focused governance.

“Let me assure the people of Akwa Ibom State that we will continue to discharge our duties with probity and dedication for the benefit of all. With the signing of this supplementary budget, our commitment to implementing government programmes and projects remains unwavering,” the governor said.

In a move to fast-track project completion, Governor Eno also approved the immediate release of ₦60 billion to contractors with verified Interim Payment Certificates and urged all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to maintain strict adherence to timelines and standards.

The October edition of the Project Delivery Meeting showcased progress reports on 12 major projects, including the Tree Crop Revolution, Ibom Tourism Summit, Arise Senior Citizens Centre, State Electricity Market, Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort renovation, Oron Maritime Jetty Project, CNG City Bus Project, and the ongoing rehabilitation of the State House of Assembly Complex.

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, lauded the governor’s inclusive and innovative approach to governance, describing the review sessions as a “model of transparency and effective oversight.”

Other stakeholders, including Senator Effiong Bob, commended Governor Eno for his hands-on leadership style, fiscal prudence, and dedication to sustainable development, reaffirming their support for his administration’s vision of a united and prosperous Akwa Ibom.
