As Nigeria marks another Independence Anniversary on October 1, I join millions of our compatriots at home and in the diaspora to celebrate the courage, resilience, and enduring hope of our people.
Sixty-five years ago, we reclaimed our sovereignty and stepped into the world as a free nation with limitless promise.
This day is not only about flags, parades, and ceremonial speeches. It is a reminder of the sacrifices of our forebears who, through persistence and unity, wrested freedom from colonial rule. Their legacy is a call to every generation of Nigerians to defend, nurture, and expand the boundaries of liberty, justice, and opportunity.
Yet, independence must never be reduced to nostalgia. True freedom must be measured in the security of our communities, the strength of our institutions, and the fairness of our economy.
As a people, we must insist on accountable governance, inclusive policies, and the protection of national unity above narrow divisions. Our diversity is not a weakness but the very fabric of our strength.
On this historic occasion, I urge Nigerians to rekindle faith in our nation and in each other. Let us remember that the destiny of Nigeria will not be shaped by external forces but by the choices we make as citizens.
From Edo State to every corner of the federation, we must recommit to building a nation where democracy thrives, where hard work is rewarded, and where the dignity of every Nigerian is upheld.
May the green-white-green continue to inspire us. May our sacrifices today secure a brighter tomorrow. And may Nigeria rise to fulfill her greatness among the nations of the world.
