The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has revealed a landmark policy that guarantees lifetime salary benefits for senior officers retiring from the rank of Deputy Controller, Comptroller, or Commandant-General and above.
The policy, described as a significant boost to officer welfare, was recently approved by President Bola Tinubu.
Tunji-Ojo disclosed this during the 2025 Ministerial Retreat, where he outlined the ministry’s achievements and reaffirmed its commitment to institutional strengthening across all agencies.
This was contained in a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer and Head of Corporate Services of the Federal Fire Service, DCF PO Abraham.
According to the statement, the minister expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support, stressing that all agencies under the Ministry of Interior are benefitting from the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We have successfully cleared the long-standing backlog of promotions,” Tunji-Ojo said, adding that over 50,000 officers have been promoted within the last two years. He noted that going forward, career progression will be driven by capacity and performance.
As part of the ministry’s focus on capacity building, Tunji-Ojo announced the development of new training manuals and the ongoing construction of a world-class Fire Academy designed to match global standards, including the Arizona Fire Academy.
The minister further underscored the importance of workplace mental health, assuring officers of continuous support in this area. He also urged the Federal Fire Service to engage the private sector through partnerships, noting that such collaborations are vital for improving service delivery, modernising infrastructure, and advancing firefighting operations across Nigeria.
