A high-speed crash involving the luxury supercar of Nigerian rapper Prince Daniel Obioma, popularly known as 3GAR, has led to looming legal consequences.
According to Nicholas Gostell, a Democratic Alliance representative in the National Council of Provinces, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed that the 29-year-old driver will face charges of reckless or negligent driving. The decision follows months of pressure from local officials over the March 1 incident on High Level Road in Sea Point.
Travelling at more than 200 kilometres per hour, the supercar slammed into a pavement and wall, with footage of the wreckage quickly going viral. Millions viewed videos showing the aftermath, which many described as a reckless disregard for safety.
Gostell, who had long pushed for accountability, welcomed the move. “Reckless drivers have no place tearing through our neighbourhoods and endangering lives; no matter where you live or what you drive,” he said.
He noted that Sea Point Police confirmed an investigation was underway but expressed frustration that charges were delayed. Security company footage reportedly shows the car speeding through a suburban area before losing control, hitting a kerb, and crashing into a boundary wall. However, the rapper has claimed on social media that he swerved to avoid a homeless person and that the videos were edited.
The incident comes amid growing anger from residents over the dangerous antics of high-performance vehicles in Sea Point and nearby Camps Bay, often disturbing the peace and flouting traffic laws during early mornings and weekends.
“Residents on the Atlantic Seaboard are particularly frustrated by the prevalence of these cars racing through our streets, putting lives at risk,” Gostell added.
