Governor Hyacinth Alia Seeks More Time in N1 Billion Defamation Suit Filed by Reps Member Terseer Ugbor

Governor Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has requested additional time to respond to a N1 billion defamation lawsuit filed against him by Terseer Ugbor, the member representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

The suit, marked MHC/422/2024, was filed before a Makurdi High Court and also names the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, and media aide, Isaac Uzaan, as co-defendants.

According to a report by Hobnob, Ugbor is seeking damages over alleged defamatory statements linked to the governor and his aides.

When the case was mentioned in court, J.A. Omenka, Director of Civil Litigation from the Benue State Ministry of Justice, appeared on behalf of Governor Alia and pleaded with the court for more time to respond to the legal processes filed by Ugbor’s counsel, Barrister Emmanuel Agbakor.

Agbakor did not oppose the request, allowing for an adjournment to accommodate the governor’s legal team.

Presiding judge, Justice I.N. Igoh, granted the application and adjourned the matter to September 25, 2025, for hearing of the motion for joinder.
